All about Valley of Flowers Trek

Valley of Flowers is situated high in the Uttarakhand Himalayas at an altitude of 3,600 m and above. This valley is popular for hundred of Himalayan flowers including dozens of rare Himalayan flower species which you don’t find anywhere else. Valley of flowers were not known to humans, for centuries this enchanting valley lay frozen during the colder months, and burst into its youthful beauty every year, as the snow melted with the arrival of summer. Every year, the valley was splashed with color as it bloomed with hundreds of kinds of flowers, taking on various shades of colors as months progressed. Except Gaddy’s (Shepherds) this valley found first by famous British mountaineer and botanist called Frank Smith in 1931. After he returned back to England he wrote a book called "The Valley of Flowers" which unveil the beauty and floral splendors of the valley and made it famous. Valley of flowers was declared a national park in 1982, and now it is a World Heritage Site. The locals, of course, always knew of the existence of the valley, and believed that it was inhabited by fairies (Anchries in local dialect). During this trip we also visit Hemkund Sahib; which is celebrated one of the holiest Sikh shrines in Himalayas. There are few flowers in upper reaches of this side valley and around glacial lake which we don’t find in main valley of flowers.
